Hi! I just joined this group so I'm not exactly sure how this works yet...I wanted to see if anyone has gotten a puppy (specifically a golden retriever) with the intent of it being a companion for their child with autism. We have a 10 yr. old who was around our dog for only a couple of years when he was a baby. We were thinking of a canine companion that was officially trained but that is very expensive. FYI Tomorrow (Thursday) at CPI some of us parents gather at CPI at 9am for a support group. It's a once a month meeting and it's been great for me to connect with other parents, share my struggles and blessings and learn about others' experiences. I hope to be there, and will look forward to meeting you if you can make it. Lorna Catford puts it on and it's always a wonderful time in a small group.
